Beaten Out By Boy Scouts

"Clean-up, clean-up, everybody everywhere. Clean-up, Clean-up, everybody do your share." -Barney, the big purple dinosaur.

Today was the Arlington County/Falls Church Young Republicans Clean-Up the Park Day. Unfortunately, upon arriving there we found out we had been upstaged by the local boy scout troop (shake your fist at those youthful do-gooders!). But I guess the early bird get's the trash because those boys did such an awesome job cleaning the place up that we were scrounging for trash on the land like we were hunting eggs on easter.

We did manage to find a few things here and there that the boys might not have been as adventurous to pick up (around the creek and steep hills and such), and after we were finished we had a nice cookout by the pavilion (don't worry, we cleaned up after ourselves).

We never thought we would be so happy to actually find a piece of trash on the ground- but we were so eager to help, we were happy to have found anything to trash. Maybe next time we will get lucky ;).

Top of the Mornin to Ya!

Happy St. Patrick's Day people!!

Have you been having as much fun as I have??!

Well, let us just see about that...

I talked Kara into walking in the St. Patrick's Day Parade, which was actually held yesterday and was a slash/ Mardi Gras parade (don't ask) for the Young Republicans. I made signs for people to carry that said "Kiss me! I'm republican!"

For work, I finally broke out one of me poofy dresses from Target- the green one, of course (and was rather disappointed more people weren't wearing green)- and I have to say that I am in love with it- except one of me coworkers did inquire if I was PREGNANT???? Do I look pregnant to you??

Don't answer that. And the correct answer is no.

That's right, this lad was loudly asking, in the office, where everyone could hear, if I had a bun in the oven. Then, to top it off, he told me the only reason he asked was because me tummy bulge was poufing out more today (than usual, I suppose?)- and then once realizing his mistake he blamed it on the dress. On top of that, for the past week and a half I have been eating super healthy to lose weight. It Figures.

Whatev. I SUPO love all me poufy dresses in all their different colors, so he is going to be seeing a lot of me tummy bulge in the future.

We were talking about green whipped cream on our lunch break (and for whatever reasons it was really funny to us). Well, I called Kara a Leprechaun and left to go grocery shopping for St. Patrick's Day dinner. But what did she find on her desk when she came back from lunch?? Dun. Dun. Dun. Dun......

We had a good laugh and all enjoyed dining on the delicious green treat.

I think that is the part I miss most about St. Patrick's Day- the fun stuff. Husband was saying earlier that St. Patrick's Day is one of the only Holidays that is really catered to adults. But I remember having so much fun on St. Patrick's Day as a kid. Me brothers and I would go Leprechaun hunting, tricks were played on people, me aunt would take us to a parade, I would decorate the whole house, Mum was cooking corned beef brisket, potatoes, carrots, and cabbage, and the night before St. Patrick's Day we would leave our shoes out on the front porch and at night the Leprechauns would come fill them up with candy (which is kind of gross to me thinking about it now).

Us with our green teeth after eating the green cool whip:

In the same tradition, I've been feeling a bit peckish lately, and decided to carry on with the food tradition for St. Patrick's Day with me Mum's favorite Irish meal (and everyone else who cooks it on this day):

Except me crockpot wasn't on all day (faulty plug), so I had to boil it when I got home- which was awful! The food turned out alright, but I don't know if it was good to eat or not. It was either underdone or overdone- I can't really tell since, well, I don't do a lot of cooking. If I am sick tonight, then I will know.

So me ould sweat, raise your green beer and cheers to a long life and a merry one, a quick death and an easy one, a pretty girl (guy) and an honest one, and a cold beer and another one!

Happy St. Patrick's Day, and remember, if you're lucky enough to be Irish, you're lucky enough!

Slan go foill,

ANIBSHO

P.S. Watching "Luck of the Irish" on The Disney Channel.... don't lie, you're watching it too.

Keeping It Real (while watching the Chappelle's Show)

The longer I don’t blog- the harder it becomes to actually blog. Sometimes I like to save up my material for one giant blog post- the reason, laziness. I also don't want people to realize just how uneventful my life can be at times. But sometimes the downtimes are the better times, and so here goes...

Last night the snow was coming down in giant snowflakes and I fell asleep praying that work would be cancelled so I could catch up on all my non-work stuff. While my wish wasn’t answered I was fairly pleased with the alternative of driving through a stunning winter-wonderland and traffic-less route.

Enough about today though, let’s travel back in time to when I used to blog on a regular basis but seemingly dropped off the face of the blogging world for awhile. Since my last post…

Aunt Lisa came to visit (with a smile on) and we enjoyed her visit so much we didn’t want her to leave (and it wasn’t just because you filled up our pantry and fridge with food!). She, apparently informed by my mother that I was scared I would be a bad hostess, brought Yahtzee for us all to play (right after the spectacular seafood dinner she took us out to on D.C.’s waterfront) and it was hoot despite her endless winning-streak. No worries though- I came back strong during our one-on-one battleship tournament where I beat out her career-military training with my rookie randomized ship strategy. Anyway, when she left I started to ask myself, "Who hosted who?"

My birthday....

Husband cooked me this delicious, and beautifully decorated, chocolate chocolate cake. He also bought me two super cute dresses from the online store- modcloth.com. I could live in their vintage-style dresses.

I got this super cute box'o'popcorn from my coworker Sarah- super yummy. And my other coworker Kara got me two champagne flutes and some champagne- which she must have been paying attention, because I am always saying I need some champagne glasses. Kara- just wait for your gift, it is still in the making, but you wont be disappointed.

Surprisingly they didn't go too crazy destroying my office, but my lovely boss Jeremy was kind enough to deface my super star trek wall calendar, literally... he put push pins through Captain Kirk's eyes.

One of my best friends from college, Jessica John, sent me a very unexpected birthday letter- in the actual mail- who our age does that these days? She made a sign on one side where she misspelled "Birthday" as Birt-day, which made the letter even better. She also reminded me of my New Year's resolution to write people hand-written letters more often- one of the many I have been struggling to do or, in this case, even begin.

Speaking of New Year's Resolutions....

Two or three saturday nights ago, as Husband was hard at work on some law school something, I remembered my New Year's resolution to read a book a month, at least. I decided if I didn't buy a book that very second, I wasn't going to meet my goal with only a week left. Luckily, I had been reading this old copy of Time or Newsweek that had good "Summer Reads" suggested by other authors and so I ran to Borders to pick some up. My first read is called "The Wife" by Meg Wolitzer- it piqued my interest because all the reviews kept saying "surprise ending that even the most intuitive reader won't guess." I consider myself very good at prematurely knowing "who done it" or what was done, in television, movies, and books.

I was less than a chapter in before I had already guessed not one, but two!, of the "surprise endings". In the end, my theories were confirmed and I elevated myself to the Hall of Fame of Storyline-Guessers. Regardless, it was still a really good book about a woman who is on the brink of breaking off her marriage to a man she has spent her entire life putting his career (and scandalous habits) in front of her own needs. The real reason I chose it- it was only 216 pages and I had a deadline to meet. I ended up finishing it the next day- so at least I have managed to keep one of my resolutions this year (so far).

Other things… hmmm… my camera has been on the fritz (because I keep forgetting to charge it) so I have been slacking in the picture department, but I was recently voted in as Secretary of the Arlington County/Falls Church Young Republicans- It was a hard-fought campaign against our non-existent opponents, but a win is a win, yes? Come out to the meetings!

I recently worked on a marketing presentation for West Tennessee Baja, the baja company Bryan Boggs’ works for (see below). So if your company is looking for a great way to get national exposure, or even just local exposure, you should check out their unique sponsorship opportunities. Yes, this is a shameless plug, but it's baja! Who doesn't think bajas are awesome?

This past weekend, Husband was busy studying or something else law school-related, so I graciously devoted my Saturday to working on a new background and header for my mother’s blog (click here to check out Cindy Lou Designs) and setting her up an Etsy online store (click here to see her new store) to sell the items she makes while feeding her crafts and sewing addiction. Yes, this is a shameless plug for my mother's blog and online shop- but she's my mother, who doesn't love their mommy? (don't answer that- this is not a therapy session)

And because it was snowing, and I once again had nowhere to turn for entertainment (I am so over television lately), I decided to design a header for my sisters’ bakery’s blog (click here to make your mouth start watering, you can see the new header in action). It was so fun designing things that were so girly rather than most of the firearm-related things I am usually designing. I love doing both, but the range (no pun intended) between the two is so wide it cracks me up. Yes, this is a shameless plug for my sisters' bakery- but who doesn't love cupcakes?? Exactly.

But the real reason I have developed this compulsion for working on other people’s blogs is because I desperately want to redesign my own, but have absolutely no idea what I want to do with it. If you frequent my blog, you may see me try a bunch of different things over the next few weeks. I am taking suggestions…

There is a load of other things to include as well, happy hours, fund-raisers, happy hour fund-raisers, etc. But this post is already entirely too long and I have no pictures to tell the story for me. Tune in later to see how I have been correcting my poor-posture back and neck pain- it will probably be the most exciting thing you’ve ever read. Until then, enjoy this picture of one of our National Managers standing on my desk and a picture of me pondering the meaning of life over Mexican food...
